As President Donald Trump, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) negotiated the legislative response to the COVID-19 pandemic, their former aides lobbied them on behalf of deep-pocketed companies.

Over 1,000 clients dispatched lobbyists with close ties to the White House or congressional leaders through the first half of 2020. About 40 percent of those clients reported lobbying on issues related to the pandemic.

Pharmaceutical companies that received massive windfalls from the federal government to swiftly develop COVID-19 vaccines deployed Washington insiders. So did firms tasked with producing ventilators, and businesses in hard-hit industries angling for government aid. Companies that had not lobbied during the Trump administration — or ever before — signed contracts with K Street firms.

The vast majority of these clients are businesses or trade associations, which make up nearly 90 percent of lobbying spending this year. The success of revolving door lobbyists indicates that powerful interests saw former aides to top officials as their best chance to influence high-level negotiations that mostly sidelined rank-and-file lawmakers.

The Feinstein’s have gotten rich because as TC members transformed China into a Technocracy and the into economic giant that it is today. March Meeting of Members

The March 12th meeting of the Members of the Martin 9/12 TeaParty Committee was busy as usual. You could tell that the next election season is upon us with the appearance of candidates who need to spread the word of their hard work.

Rebecca Negron (L) spoke to the Members about issues regarding the Martin County School Board. Stacy Heatherington, Republican State Committeewoman for Martin County, is a candidate for County Commissioner for District 2 (Stuart and East Stuart). Both candidates asked for signatures for their candidate petitions.

Cynthia Lucas related the history of this Committee's work in vetting candidates in the 2010 and 2012 election cycles. The importance of examining the candidacy of our representatives before the Primaries was illustrated by recalling several disappointing performances from recently elected officials who were not proprly evaluated before receiving Party support.

Our guest speaker was Billy Vaughn (father of slain Navy Seal Aaron Vaughn) who spoke of his support of the organization known as, "Understanding the Threat." Speakers offer strategic and operational training and consulting on the threat of the global Islamic movement to law enforcement agencies across the country.

Billy Vaughn showed a Powerpoint presentation which recounted the exposure of persons in our country who have been shown to be threats to the American way of life. The real threat is known to be subversive activity which is being overshadowed by the more sensational terrorist activities around the globe. He also urged the Members to encourage all law enforcement leaders in our area to host a UTT 3-day program to recognize the threat.

Looking out for the LITTLE GUY

While the rest of us are meeting in Orlando to find a Republic Standard Bearer for the 2012 election (to defeat the Obama Machine), Vice Pres. JoeBiteMe is coming down to Miami to consult with one of the Progressive Best for a little “redistribution” of our wealth. The struggle for the rights of the oppressed continues in the Miami home of  Michael M. Adler, Chairman of the Adler Group.

Isn’t it inspiring that people like these can fight the millionaires and billionaires with their big corporate jets mentality and the greed that compels them to resist the Obama juggernaut? Why must the greedy Republicans continue to prevent Obama from raising the debt ceiling once again to “create jobs?” But I digress…

While Republicans are hatching plots to uncover the hypocrisy of the Progressive/socialist message, the gritty work goes on in that socializing manner that true radicals embrace. With dedication and zeal, Progressives suffer through the Miami heat to bring poor Joe Biden a meager repast on September 23. Where else can you see the “people’s work” being done for Social Justice?

Is Obama Circumventing Congress to Restrict Political Speech?

Is President Barack Obama trying to perform an end-run around Congress in order to implement restrictions on political speech?

 

It’s a question that 27 senators put to President Obama in a letter this week in which they urged him to reconsider a draft executive order (EO) that would require government contractors to disclose political contributions.

In the letter, the senators cite to Hans von Spakovsky, Senior Legal Fellow at The Heritage Foundation, who raised concerns over the underlying purpose of the executive order:

"Given similarities between the draft EO and some provisions of the DISCLOSE Act, which was rejected by the Senate in its current form, we are also concerned that the EO may be an effort to circumvent Congress. At least one commentator, former Federal Election Commissioner Hans von Spakovsky, has already criticized the draft EO as an attempt by your Administration “to implement–by executive fiat–portions of the DISCLOSE Act.”

Earlier this week, von Spakovsky explained in The Washington Examiner the effect — and intent — of the president’s EO.

"It would require any company bidding on a government contract to disclose all political contributions made in the two years before the bid by the company, its affiliates and subsidiaries, and any of its directors or officers …

It would require government contractors to disclose any contributions they make to third-party organizations “with the intention or reasonable expectation” that the funds will be used to make “independent expenditures or electioneering communications.”

In other words, bidders will have to disclose all of their charitable and noncharitable donations to third parties if those outside organizations engage in any grassroots lobbying or political speech. This is obviously intended to curtail (and censor) political speech by government contractors."

The order wouldn’t apply to federal employee unions or many nonprofits that receive federal grants and, as von Spakovsky writes:

"What is really going on here is a transparent attempt to introduce political gamesmanship into the government contracting business by the Obama administration. It is a cynical attempt to use the guise of reform to achieve political goals at the cost of the liberty that all Americans have to participate in the political process, and to voice their political opinions, without fear of retribution to themselves and their businesses."

The Heritage Foundation
