"The Patriot is a Scarce Man"

As he approached the podium during the first moments of the 114th Congress of the United States of America, Congressman Jim Bridentstine (R-OK) did so with more eyes on him than he has probably ever had while on the floor of the House.
Many were watching because four days ago he did something people in his position rarely do – he chose to act out of conviction and principle, rather than self-preservation or professional prosperity.
In November, as Bridenstine noted in his release a few days ago, “Republicans won the largest Majority in the House of Representatives in 100 years,” and yet little more than a month later, GOP leadership – specifically House Speaker John Boehner – teamed up with President Obama to advance and pass the CROmnibus spending budget. In the eyes of Bridenstine, and in that of thousands of Americans who flooded Congress’ phones this week, that was a step too far.
