The Lois Lerner state
- By RICH LOWRY
It is appropriate that the worst scandal of the Obama administration — the Internal Revenue Service’s targeting of conservatives — is a scandal of administrators and bureaucrats, of otherwise faceless people endowed with immense power over their fellow citizens and running free of serious oversight from elected officials.
They are the shock troops of the vast bureaucratic apparatus of the federal government. President Obama has greatly enhanced their influence and reach by augmenting the power of regulatory agencies that are an inherent offense against self-government, even when they aren’t enforcing the law in a biased way.
The administration’s corruption isn’t bags of cash or lies about interns; it is the distortion of our form of government by sidestepping democratic procedures and accountability and vesting authority in bureaucrats. The administrative state is, fundamentally, the Lois Lerner state.

As a former "face" in that very bureaucracy, I fully agree with Rich Lowry! I'm glad to have retired before this witch came into the IRS, but the way for her was paved by prior management - scum who "protected" left wing groups but ran roughshod over conservative groups. E.g. - remember how, in 1993, a church in upstate NY lost its exemption for taking ads in newspapers detailing Clinton's affairs during the 1992 election campaign? Yes, a violation of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. BUT, how is it that black churches never lose their exemption although they're nothing but Democ-rat Party clubs during election campaigns? (When a Democ-rat activist, David Ifshin, questioned the logic of this he was called a "smart-ass white boy" by Ambassador Andrew Young.) This is a basic example of how the IRS-Exempt Organizations' bureaucracy protects leftist and Democ-rat groups.
